Day 128 – A New
Design, A New Beginning

Every piece I create carries the threads of my ancestors. Today I started something new — a design I hope will honour them and bring joy to your home. It began, as it always does, in the quiet hours before sunrise, when the light through my workshop window is soft enough to see the true colour of a freshly dyed skein. I had been dreaming about this pattern for weeks, turning it over in my mind the way my grandmother once taught me to turn a thought before ever touching the loom — slowly, and with respect for what it might become. There is a rhythm to this work that cannot be rushed. The warp has to be set with patience, thread by thread, and the dyes are drawn from the plants that grow just outside our door: cochineal from the cactus, indigo from the leaves we tend ourselves. Every knot is placed with a story in mind, and every colour carries a memory of the women who taught me this craft. I hope that when this piece eventually finds its way into your home, you feel a little of the quiet and the care that went into making it — and that it reminds you, as it reminds me each morning I sit down at the loom, that the oldest traditions are so often the ones most worth keeping alive.
